About Satu

Satu is a writer and director of film and theater in Los Angeles. She is the Creative Director of Karakuva Productions. Her original musical play, KING NIGEL’S NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, held its LA premiere at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in 2024. Her short film, PUBLIC PERSONA, premiered at NewFilmmakers, New York. Recently, she directed a staged reading of JULIUS CAESAR for The Porters of Hellsgate at the Madnani Theatre. Her comedy feature screenplay, HESSIANS OF BURBANK, won Best Script at the Florida Comedy Film Festival and became a finalist at Women’s Voices Rock.

Between calypso and Finnish folk, music was a ubiquitous presence in Satu’s multicultural childhood home in rural Nova Scotia. A graduate of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, New York, Satu has performed in regional productions of CABARET and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. Today, she frequently falls down research rabbit-holes on American counterculture and the untold stories of influential women who made history. More about Satu: www.saturuna.com
